Every soul is on a mission to grow in awareness of itself as one with Spirit. Spirit exists in everything, and so this is where the soul’s quest begins–with everything. When a soul extends love to another, it experiences a deep connection with it. This connection is the awareness of Oneness. The messy lives of humans provide the fertile ground in which awareness grows best. This is because, as humans, we are dependent on one another for our survival. Our dependency draws us deeper into the lives of others. It affords us the opportunity to appreciate others, to identify with others, and to love others. For our souls, no greater opportunity exists.
Each incarnation the soul assumes is meant to give it valuable insight into the oneness of Spirit. If it is having difficulty relating to a particular expression of creation, it will choose to manifest in a form that will give it insight. You may have heard the saying: You cannot judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes. Well, for the soul, that mile is a lifetime, perhaps many lifetimes in similar creations. In this way, the process of incarnation is just one big education for the soul.
It is not that the soul has to learn to overcome its ego. The soul has no ego and, therefore, does not have to overcome pride or jealousy or any of the other trappings that the mind has created. Its sole challenge is to grow its capacity to love. The experiences it chooses, therefore, are designed to help it develop a deep appreciation for all of creation. It may take many, many incarnations for it to appreciate all expressions of creation, but its education is not on a timetable. The Universe provides it all the time and space it needs to accomplish its mission.
For the soul, every incarnation is a piece of a bigger picture—that of Spirit. Every path it chooses to travel, a good one, whether it be in the steps of a madman or those of a saint. Every form that it takes is sacred, each brimming with insight. Each and every soul has a legitimate claim to be right where it is, learning, as it may be, knee-deep in the mistakes of its incarnation.
It is our minds’ lack of recognition of the soul and its mission that causes us to judge the paths of others so harshly. We count the mistakes of others against them like they really mean something in the big scheme of things. But from a spiritual standpoint, mistakes are a valued commodity because they lead to insight. Each represents a sign post, without which a soul would never reach its destination. A soul that has witnessed many mistakes through its incarnations is a rich soul indeed. It indicates that it has traveled many roads to get to where it is at and has gained much wisdom along the way. All roads lead to Rome, as the saying goes. In the case of the soul, they all lead to higher consciousness.
The Spectrum of the Soul’s Reincarnations
Eventually, every soul must cover the spectrum of experiences, including the most undesirable. Through the process of reincarnation, each soul will learn what it means to be lost and lonely. It will be on a first name basis with sickness and poverty. It will know well what it means to be an outcast. It will have lived lives that were ignorant, arrogant, and prejudiced. It will witness creation from every angle, and in the process, grow in compassion. In doing so, it will learn to give love as the Creator does–unconditionally.
Each human life represents a stage of a journey in which a soul is engaged. Our lives too are just such a stage. If we believe our lives represent an advanced stage, it stands to reason it is only because our souls have run the gamut of so many incarnations before us. We are climbing on the shoulders of lives that our souls have previously lived. No doubt, many of those lives were messy, maybe some, downright ugly, but we owe thanks to each and every one of them for the insight they have imparted to our souls and from which we now benefit.
In developing an appreciation for our souls’ past lives, we come to appreciate the lives of those around us. Each is a valued experience for a soul, each yielding a hard-won lesson. It is within our power to make the learning process easier for others. If each life is a lesson meant to help a soul grow in its awareness of Oneness, then we simplify that lesson when we exemplify the characteristics of love. When we demonstrate patience, gentleness, and compassion for the world, we resonate with the energy of love.
Souls everywhere are drawn to this energy. It calls to them like nectar calls to bees. Instead of a soul stumbling through the darkness of its incarnation, it is guided by light, that light being you and me. When we allow our lives to be windows for light, we are flooded by light. Our minds, indeed, our whole beings, radiate with the energy of love and so do our creations.
Love is best demonstrated in our willingness to see another without the overlay of a heavy ego. Good deeds are great, but nothing says love like total acceptance. When we accept another without reservation, we are not condoning their actions, rather we are holding firm to what we know them to truly be—an exquisite reflection of the Creator itself. Think of it in regards to how we view children. A four-year-old might throw a temper tantrum when she does not get her way, but we do not confuse her behavior for who she is. To adults, especially her parents, she is still a glorious creation. Her behavior does not meet with animosity, but with an attitude of patience, gentleness, and wisdom. This is the attitude we seek to demonstrate for all of creation.
In our acceptance of others, we are drawn deeper into our spiritual nature. We are exercising our capacity to love and thereby, supporting the mission of our souls. In doing so, our minds become animated by our souls rather than our egos. Light flows through us, and as a consequence, our thoughts become dynamic, inspired, and supported by the Universe. We create at a higher frequency and thus see our thoughts manifest quicker as a result. These are the qualities of a Miracle Mind and ours to possess when we align with the mission of our souls.
