As you may know, the ego is an identity we construct for ourselves. It is the collection of our beliefs. And as our beliefs are subject to change, so are our egos. It is therefore safe to say that the ego is nothing more than an illusion.
So it begs the question, if egos are only an illusion, can they do any real harm? Yes, they can, and they do. But more importantly than the harm a dangerous ego can do to you is what love can do for you. Love can lift you out of harm’s way. It trumps the most dangerous egos because it is the ultimate truth, and truth always wins out over an illusion.
The challenge is staying focused on love when confronted with a dangerous ego. The key is not to take the ego personally. You only make it more “real” when you do. Focus on the soul that lies beyond it instead. Everybody has one—a big beautiful soul that radiates love and light. Reach out to it. If this hard for you to do, imagine a Christ-like version of the person and talk to it in your head. Ask for its help to bring about peace, and it will give it to you. It will bypass the ego all together and pave a way in the mind for peace to grow.
Peace is only hard to achieve when you try to negotiate with a person’s ego. Their soul, on the other hand, makes it easy because it aims for love in everything it does.
Give it a try. What do you have to lose?
